My love for craft started with my mother.
Growing up, I watched her turn simple threads into something beautiful — not with machines or factories, but with hands that knew patience, and a heart that poured love into every stitch. She taught me that true craftsmanship isn't just about making things. It's about creating a life filled with love and patience.
That lesson stayed with me. Years later, when I started Bellastilo, I knew I wanted to build something more than a bag brand. I wanted to build a space where other women could experience what my mother had given me — the dignity of making something with your own hands, the freedom to work on your own terms, and the joy of creating while still being present for your family.
Today, that space is home to 30 women. And every single one of them has a story worth telling.
Who Are Our Artisans?
Bellastilo is a community of 30 women artisans — and many of us are mothers.
We come from different backgrounds and different walks of life, but we share one thing in common: we believe in the value of handmade work, and we want to build livelihoods that don't force us to choose between our careers and our families.
Some of our artisans are weaving to support their children's education. Some are building financial independence for the first time in their lives. Some are mothers who want to earn an income without missing their children's first steps, school plays, or bedtime stories.
What unites us is the quiet pride that comes from creating something beautiful with our own hands — and knowing that someone, somewhere, will carry it with them.
A Day in the Life of a Bellastilo Artisan
There is no factory floor at Bellastilo. No clock to punch. No supervisor watching over your shoulder.
Instead, our artisans work from a home-based workspace that bends around their lives, not the other way around.
A typical day might start with dropping the kids at school, then settling in at the weaving table with a cup of tea. Some artisans prefer to work in the quiet morning hours. Others weave while their little ones nap. Many pick up their needles again after dinner, when the house is quiet and the lamp is warm.
A single bag takes 5 to 7 hours of handwork. That's five to seven hours of looping, knotting, pulling, and adjusting — done by one pair of hands, at her own pace, between the ordinary and beautiful moments of daily life.
There is something deeply human about this way of working. A bag woven between school drop-offs and dinner prep carries a different kind of energy than one stitched by a machine on an assembly line. It carries the rhythm of a real life.
Why We Choose Handmade Over Fast Fashion
We live in a world that prizes fast, cheap, and new. Bags are bought, used for a season, and discarded. The people who make them are often invisible — faceless workers in factories far away, paid pennies for hours of labor.
We chose a different path.

Meet Some of Our Artisans
Lin — Lin has been with Bellastilo since the early days. A mother of two, she weaves while her children are at school and picks up again after they're asleep. "Before Bellastilo, I had to choose between working and being there for my kids," she says. "Now I don't have to choose." Her favorite thing to weave is our Everyday Tote, because it's spacious and practical — just like her.
Mei — Mei joined us last year after years of working in a garment factory. "In the factory, I was just a pair of hands," she shares. "Here, I'm a maker. I sign my work." She's known for her incredibly even stitches and her love of natural dye colors. Her signature piece is the Sage Shoulder Bag, dyed with plant-based pigments.
Xiaoqing — The youngest on our team at 24, Xiaoqing learned to weave from her grandmother. "She told me that weaving is like telling a story with thread," Xiaoqing says. "Every bag is a different story." She brings a fresh, modern sensibility to traditional techniques and loves experimenting with new patterns and color combinations.
These are just three of the 30 women behind Bellastilo. Every one of them has a story. Every one of them is building something meaningful.
